Diana C. Tang
Assistant General Manager - City of Long Beach, Public Utilities Department
Diana C. Tang serves as Assistant General Manager, at the City of Long Beach, Public Utilities Department. In this role, she leads cross-functional operations and business initiatives for the agency. She oversees a 500-employee workforce that provides safe and reliable water, natural gas and sewer services to 90,000 water and sewer customer accounts, and 155,000 natural gas customer accounts. In preparation for the LA28 Olympics, Diana leads the Long Beach Utilities Department's work with LA28, serves on the Games Water and Energy Council, and Chairs the Games Water Council, Venue Water Infrastructure Committee.
Diana is also Chair of the nine-member County Safe, Clean Water Program Regional Oversight Committee. This committee provides oversight and recommendations that guide countywide safe, clean water investments.
Prior to joining Long Beach Utilities, Diana served as Chief of Staff to Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia from 2019 to 2022. Her public policy work began in the City of Long Beach’s City Manager’s Office and includes a range of public policies impacting state and local climate change initiatives, transportation, and legislation enabling public-private partnerships, including the design, build, finance, operation and maintenance of the new Long Beach Civic Center as a public-private partnership with Plenary-Edgemoor.
Ms. Tang’s career in the public sector began in 2000 with the City of Los Alamitos as a Pool Lifeguard and Swim Instructor at the Joint Forces Training Base. In 2002, she joined the Long Beach Fire Department, Marine Safety Division as an Ocean Lifeguard and Emergency Medical Technician.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Sport Management from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and Masters in Public Policy and Administration from California State University, Long Beach. Born and raised in Southern California, Diana is a proud Long Beach resident.
