Edward Moses
CEO, Longview Fusion Energy Systems
Dr. Edward Moses is the Founder and CEO of Longview Fusion Energy Systems, where he leads efforts to commercialize laser-driven fusion energy and bring scalable, carbon-free fusion power to the electric grid within the next decade. A nationally recognized physicist, engineer, and technology executive, Moses has spent more than five decades leading some of the world’s most ambitious scientific and engineering programs in energy, optics, and advanced technology. Before founding Longview in 2021, Moses served as Project Manager and Director of the National Ignition Facility (NIF) at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where he oversaw development of the world’s largest and most energetic laser system. Under his leadership, NIF achieved historic fusion ignition and demonstrated fusion energy gain — a milestone widely viewed as a breakthrough on the path toward practical fusion energy. He also directed the Laser Inertial Fusion Energy (LIFE) program, which developed early commercial fusion power plant designs in collaboration with major U.S. utility companies. In addition to his fusion leadership, Moses previously served as President of the Giant Magellan Telescope Organization, overseeing development of one of the world’s next-generation astronomical observatories. He also helped lead the commercialization of advanced cancer treatment technologies, including the Peregrine radiation therapy system. Moses is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and a Fellow of multiple scientific organizations, including SPIE, the Optical Society of America, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Over the course of his career, he has authored more than 150 peer-reviewed papers, holds numerous patents, and has received honors including the Edward Teller Medal, the Fusion Power Associates Leadership Award, and the Project Management Institute’s Project of the Year Award.
