Greg Spotts

Greg Spotts is a leader in in helping cities maintain and modernize streets, infrastructure, transit and public space. Greg most recently served as the Director of Seattle’s Department of Transportation. Prior to this role, Greg served as Executive Officer and Chief Sustainability Officer for the Los Angeles Bureau of Streer Services, (“StreetsLA”), shaping policies supporting active transportation, climate change adaptation, vehicle emissions reductions, and the adoption of sustainable construction practices.

Greg is an internationally recognized leader in the emerging field of urban heat island mitigation, and oversaw a growing program of cool pavement, tree planting and shade structure installation in underserved communities. As Executive Officer of StreetsLA, Greg oversaw three constituent-facing divisions that responded to more than 135,000 service requests annually. The 600 staff under his oversight handled pothole repair, motor sweeping, tree trimming, and the enforcement of laws pertaining to use of streets and sidewalks. Passionate about technology and innovation, Greg received a Mayoral Innovation Fund grant to equip pothole inspectors with tablets, enabling same-day inspection of service requests from the public. Greg has obtained a BA in Political Science from Yale University, and a Masters of Public Policy from UCLA, including a Leadership in Sustainability Certificate.
