Jason Rondou

Interim Chief Operating Officer and Senior Assistant General Manager - Power System, LADWP

Jason Rondou is an energy infrastructure and utility executive with more than two decades of experience leading clean energy planning, grid modernization, and power system strategy for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, the nation’s largest municipal utility. As Interim Chief Operating Officer and Senior Assistant General Manager for the Power System, Rondou oversees strategic initiatives focused on reliability, resiliency, renewable energy integration, and the transition to a carbon-free electric grid. Rondou has played a central leadership role in several of LADWP’s most significant modernization efforts, including the groundbreaking LA100 Study conducted in partnership with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. The study established pathways for Los Angeles to achieve 100% clean energy while maintaining grid reliability and affordability. Throughout his career at LADWP, he has led initiatives involving renewable energy procurement, transmission planning, distributed energy resources, energy storage, electric transportation infrastructure, and Clean Grid LA programs. Before assuming his current role, Rondou served as Assistant General Manager of Planning and Modernization and previously held leadership positions including Director of Power Engineering, Director of Resource Planning, Development and Programs, and Chief of Staff to the Power System Chief Executive Officer and Chief Engineer. Earlier in his public-sector career, he worked with the Los Angeles Department of Transportation on regional transit and bus rapid transit projects, helping shape transportation infrastructure across Southern California. A licensed Electrical and Transportation Engineer in the State of California, Rondou is widely respected for combining technical expertise with strategic leadership and stakeholder engagement. He is a former Chair of the Los Angeles Chapter of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Power & Energy Society and is recognized as a leading voice on renewable integration, transmission infrastructure, and utility decarbonization. Rondou earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Loyola Marymount University, a Master of Public Administration from University of Southern California, and a Master of Business Administration from University of California, Los Angeles.
