Kathryn Barger*

Supervisor, 5th District of Los Angeles County

Kathryn Barger is Chair of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and represents the Fifth Supervisorial District, the largest district in Los Angeles County, encompassing 20 cities and extensive unincorporated communities across the San Gabriel, San Fernando, Crescenta, and Antelope Valleys. First elected in 2016 and re-elected in 2020 and 2024, Barger oversees policy and services affecting more than two million residents in areas including public health, homelessness, mental health, public safety, transportation, and regional infrastructure. Before joining the Board of Supervisors, Barger served for more than two decades in county government, including as Chief Deputy Supervisor and Chief of Staff to former Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich. In those roles, she developed expertise in transportation, land use, public safety, healthcare systems, and regional governance while helping manage some of the nation’s largest local government operations. Barger currently serves on numerous regional and national boards and commissions, including the Los Angeles Metro Board of Directors, the South Coast Air Quality Management District Governing Board, the Los Angeles County Mental Health Commission, and the National Association of Counties. She has also played a prominent role in advancing regional sustainability, mobility, and economic development initiatives throughout Southern California.
