Murota Kosei
Consul General of Japan in Los Angeles
Murota Kosei is the Consul General of Japan in Los Angeles, where he serves as Japan’s senior diplomatic representative across Southern California and Arizona. In this role, he works to strengthen U.S.-Japan relations through expanded cooperation in economic development, technology, clean energy, education, cultural exchange, and regional diplomacy. He oversees one of Japan’s largest consular jurisdictions in the United States, supporting partnerships between Japanese and American government leaders, businesses, universities, and cultural institutions. A veteran diplomat with Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Murota has held numerous senior leadership positions focused on international economic policy, trade, and global affairs. Prior to his appointment in Los Angeles, he served in senior roles within Japan’s foreign ministry addressing multilateral diplomacy, economic cooperation, and international strategic partnerships. Over the course of his diplomatic career, he has also served in overseas postings supporting Japan’s engagement with the United States and other global partners.
