Nurit Katz
Chief Sustainability Officer (UCLA) and Commissioner (LADWP)
Nurit Katz is an educator, sustainability professional, and urban ecologist dedicated to advancing resilience and environmental stewardship through cross-sector collaboration. As Chief Sustainability Officer at UCLA, she led the university’s first comprehensive sustainability plan, an award-winning landscape plan, and a groundbreaking biodiversity commitment. She also served for six years as Executive Officer for Facilities Management.
With over 15 years of teaching experience, Nurit is an Instructor for the UCLA Extension Sustainability Certificate Program and has taught for the UCLA Institute of Environment and Sustainability. She is also actively engaged in community science, serving as Outreach Coordinator for the Los Angeles Raptor Study and faculty advisor for the Bruin Birding Club.
Appointed by Mayor Bass, Nurit is a Commissioner for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP), where she champions biodiversity and nature-based solutions. She co-chairs the LA28 Sustainability Working Group and contributes to multiple advisory bodies, including the Biodiversity Expert Council and the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Areas Steering Committee.
She holds an MBA and a Master’s in Public Policy from UCLA, along with a BA in Environmental Education from Humboldt State University.
