Richard Magee

Dr. Richard "Rich" Magee is the Vice President of R&D Physics at TAE Technologies, a leading private aerospace and commercial fusion energy company. With over a decade of leadership at TAE, Dr. Magee directs the scientific research, experimental plasma physics, and advanced engineering initiatives driving the development of clean, commercial fusion power.

His expertise spans high-temperature plasma diagnostics, neutral beam injection, and the optimization of Field-Reversed Configuration (FRC) plasma devices. Dr. Magee is a pivotal figure in advancing TAE’s core mission: achieving aneutronic hydrogen-boron (p-B11) fusion, widely regarded as the cleanest, safest, and most sustainable pathway to grid-scale fusion energy. He frequently serves as a technical leader in international research collaborations, including TAE’s historic joint experiments with Japan's National Institute for Fusion Science (NIFS).

Dr. Magee joined TAE Technologies in 2013 and rose through consecutive leadership roles, including Senior Director of Physics, before being appointed Vice President in 2024. He holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where his research focused on magnetic reconnection in the Madison Symmetric Torus (MST), followed by postdoctoral research at West Virginia University specializing in advanced plasma diagnostics.
