Robert Barna
Battalion Chief
Robert J. Barna is a Battalion Chief with the Los Angeles Fire Department, assigned to Battalion 10 in the Operations Valley Bureau. Since joining the LAFD in 2007, he has served in multiple assignments, including Firefighter, Firefighter/Paramedic, Captain, Captain Adjutant, and Battalion Chief, with extensive experience in emergency operations, incident management, training, and interagency coordination. Chief Barna has contributed to several department-wide initiatives, including the Los Angeles Fire Department’s 2023–2026 Strategic Plan, operational readiness efforts, and workforce development. He has also supported the development of technology-based systems to improve medical supply accountability, training access, policy reference, and information sharing across the Department. He currently leads the Sepulveda Basin Vegetation Management and resilience initiative, a collaborative effort involving local, state, federal, and community partners focused on reducing wildfire risk, improving environmental conditions, enhancing public safety, and strengthening long-term resilience within one of Los Angeles’ most complex urban wildland interface areas. Chief Barna is passionate about leadership development, strategic planning, technology, and building collaborative solutions to complex public safety challenges. He continues to focus on developing future leaders, strengthening organizational culture, and advancing forward-leaning solutions to meet the evolving needs of the Los Angeles Fire Department and the communities it serves
