Sophie Hottat is the Consul General of Belgium in Los Angeles, where she represents the Kingdom of Belgium across Southern California, Arizona, and surrounding regions. In this role, she leads Belgium’s diplomatic, economic, cultural, and consular engagement in the western United States, working to strengthen bilateral cooperation in trade, innovation, sustainability, life sciences, technology, and creative industries. A career diplomat with Belgium’s Foreign Affairs Ministry, Hottat has held a range of international assignments focused on diplomacy, multilateral cooperation, and economic relations. Prior to her appointment in Los Angeles, she served in senior diplomatic roles in both Brussels and abroad, contributing to Belgium’s international engagement on political, economic, and cultural affairs. As Consul General, Hottat has emphasized collaboration between Belgium and California in areas including climate innovation, clean technology, biotechnology, mobility, and advanced research. She has been active in supporting Belgian companies expanding into the U.S. market while also fostering partnerships between universities, startups, public institutions, and business leaders across Europe and the American West Coast.
