Respected CA Cleantech Leader Sen. Hertzberg Enters Race for LA County Bd. of Supervisors #3

Issue:
Bob Hertzberg

With respected cleantech leader and California Senate Majority Leader Bob Hertzberg announcing his campaign for LA County Supervisor, District 3, VX News shares the below announcement and impressive list of endorsements from a large and diverse coalition of local and regional leaders in support of Hertzberg's candidacy.

VAN NUYS, CA — Today, California Senate Majority Leader and former California State Assembly Speaker Robert “Bob” Hertzberg formally launched his campaign for Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors District 3. Upon entering the contest, Senator Hertzberg rolled out a wide-ranging list of over 100 endorsements along with statements of support available below.

In officially kicking-off his campaign, Senator Bob Hertzberg released the following statement:

“We in the Valley know what it means to have an 818 area code. And the fact is, the San Fernando Valley is simply too big to not have a voice on the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.

“I’m running for County Supervisor to take on the urgent issues of today — and to develop long-term solutions for the issues of tomorrow. Housing, homelessness, mental health, public safety, and more are critical issues that must be tackled with urgency at the county level. At the same time, we must develop policies to address water, climate change, extreme heat, transportation, healthcare, jobs, environmental protection and economic development.

“While I’ve spent most of my life in the Valley, I’ve also lived and worked in nearly every corner of this district. On the Board, my goal will be to bring people together, build coalitions, and solve problems for our uniquely diverse and dynamic county. The people deserve nothing less."

Hertzberg received 78% of the vote in his most recent re-election to Senate District 18, 81% of which falls in the new 3rd Supervisorial District. Additionally, during Hertzberg’s years as a State Assemblymember and Speaker, his entire district fell in what is now the 3rd Sup. District.

Throughout his tenure in public office, Hertzberg has delivered over $1 billion in investments to the San Fernando Valley. From working on the MTA Orange Line, to sound walls along the freeways, to the CSUN Performing Arts Center and transportation to CSUN, to 38 new local schools and a myriad of local organizations, and more, Hertzberg’s dedicated his life’s work to helping lift up the working families of the San Fernando Valley.

PARTIAL LIST OF STATEMENTS OF SUPPORT

“Bob Hertzberg has been fighting for working families throughout his entire career. He understands that the flipside of the housing affordability crisis is the lack of decent wages. A healthy blue-collar middle class based on decent wages, family health care, and home ownership are what made this country the envy of the world. Bob’s a fighter that will fight for us. We’re with him all the way.”

— Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters (SWRCC) Executive Secretary Treasurer Pete Rodriguez

“Los Angeles is at a crossroads with respect to our humanitarian crisis. We either decline as a region where misery coincides with luxury or commit to bold system change to reverse the course we are on. The worsening trifecta of untreated mental illness, substance use addition, and homelessness is complicated. Los Angeles County needs leadership willing to innovate and push for mental health policies that don’t abandon people to the revolving door of jail, hospitals, and life on the streets. Bob Hertzberg is a big thinker who is energized by big problems and has the experience needed to shatter the status quo.”

— Hollywood Entertainment District BID Former Executive Director; Founder & Project Director, Heart Forward LA Kerry Morrison*

“I’m proud to endorse Bob Hertzberg for L.A. County Supervisor. Bob is not only highly qualified to serve, but he will undoubtedly bring big, bold and forward-thinking ideas to the board to transform L.A. County. He will work tirelessly and deliver thoughtful and effective leadership for the people of the 3rd district.”

– California State Treasurer Fiona Ma

"I have known Bob Hertzberg since I was 15 years old. He's a personal friend, but equally important, Bob is also someone I've worked with for decades. The fact is, we have serious challenges right now in L.A. County, and as a result, we need someone who is deeply serious about tackling the historical and structural challenges the county faces. No other candidate is better prepared than Bob Hertzberg. He is uniquely positioned to bring people of all backgrounds and viewpoints together to solve problems and get things done. For these reasons and many more, I am proud to endorse Bob Hertzberg for County Supervisor."

– California Assembly Speaker Emeritus & UC Regent John A. Pérez
