Shifting the Urban Planning Paradigm: An Antidote to Climate Change

Despite leading the nation with its efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat climate change, decades of "drive until you qualify" urban development has made reducing vehicle miles traveled a new imperative for city planners across California. At VerdeXchange VX2020, Santa Monica City Manager Rick Cole, was joined by LA City Planning Director Vince Bertoni, Principal Architect at GGLO , Gerhard Mayer,  CA AIA Chair, Debra Gerod, and Move LA Executive Director, Denny Zane to discuss the paradigm shift currently propelling transit-oriented density and development aimed at correcting the geographic, and commute-lengthening, mismatch between available jobs and available housing in Coastal California.
